Hello and welcome back to the Alopecia Angel Podcast. I’m your host, Johanna Dahlman. How to succeed in hair loss. This is the topic for today’s podcast. And really before we get into it, I wanted to give you a reminder that the scholarship application is still open. I’m very excited to do this and offer this. This is the time of year that I love to give back. This is the time of year where I start thinking about the end of the year, reorganizing my thoughts for 2025, what happened, what transpired, and also how to give back, but then also how to see what more we can do. So today’s podcast, how to succeed in hair loss. Now, if you are still doing things the way that you’ve always been doing them and still getting zero results, know that is the exact definition of insanity. And so insanity is doing the same thing over and over again thinking that you’re gonna get a different result and you’re not.

So these are my 5 steps to seeing success in hair growth. The first one is desire. You have to have the desire, the burning desire to make this and you a priority. The burning desire to put everything aside and make you and yourself and your hair loss a priority, because without that, nothing’s going to change. The thing is, if you start and continue to give yourself excuses, you continue to put other people first, you continue to make other things a priority. You continue to not put yourself as a priority. This is where the rubber meets the road. You need to make yourself a priority. You need to have that burning desire and say: I’m gonna do this and it’s gonna happen.

So let me just give you a little scenario. When I was 3 months postpartum. I was feeling okay, like my better self and feeling like I could go back to the gym. Before then I couldn’t feel and didn’t have the energy to go back to the gym. Around 3 months I decided, and I committed myself to this and I said, you know what? With our schedulers and with having zero babysitting and zero help, because we were living in a foreign country at the time in the Netherlands with my baby and my husband. No help, no family, no nothing to take care of our child.

I needed to wake up at 4:30, go to the gym at 5 and be back by 6 so that my husband can go to work. And that’s what I did every day for six 6 a week. And I did this consistently for 9 months. And in 9 months I lost 50 pounds. 50 pounds in kilos, that’s 22 kilos. That’s a lot of weight that I had put on, with my beautiful big baby who was born. I was, committed and I did it, I made it happen. This is what I’m talking about when you say: I wanna heal my hair loss. I want to get hair growth. I want to grow an inch of hair like you, Johanna, each month. There’s a commitment to this. It doesn’t take a lot of time, I can tell you that. It’s not crazy hard. But at the same time, there is a commitment factor and that desire, that burning desire needs to be there. So that’s number #1, you need to have that burning desire.

Number #2 You need to have the belief because at the end of the day, it’s not about if the hair comes back, it’s about when the hair comes. So whether you’ve had alopecia universalis for 40 years or 100 years, or whether you’ve been on and off. With androgenic female pattern baldness for ages or whether that you’ve had long COVID and it’s still hair loss from postpartum for over 5 years. It’s not about if, it’s about when, because the proven framework works, it’s all based on biology, and guess what, we’re all at the same level in accordance with biology.

So once you start focusing the areas that we need to focus on: you see results. It’s as simple as that. It’s a proven framework. So it’s not about if, it’s about when the hair comes. And so that belief needs to happen. And as someone who believed, as someone who had faith, as someone who went through this, with no roadmap, with no guidance, with no expertise of any sorts and trying to figure this out on her own for 4 years, that was me and I got all my hair back and then some all my hair back, growing a lot of hair, and I grow an inch a month and I’m about to turn 45 and it’s quite impressive. I have better hair now than what I did in my twenties.

And so this is something that you don’t know what’s possible until you actually do it. You have to believe and you have to have the faith. So if you believe and you have faith, you can make it happen. And so I would say that would be number #2 ingredient for success in hair loss. But really success in anything. You have to have a belief and you have to have a faith. You really do. So even if it’s a dark hole and it feels like a dark hole, keep going. Keep going because that’s gonna lead you there. And for many of you, you’ve already had the runaround, you’ve already dealt with many doctors, many serums, lotions, and potions, maybe even done other programs. And you still have this uncertainty, this hesitancy about anything else that could be working for you or that could actually move the needle for you. And what I would say to that is that it’s all led you here.

So in the last couple episodes back, there was a girl named Vicky, she’s a yoga instructor, and she had to go through many things for many years, and she’s been dealing with hair loss since 2016. That’s almost 10 years of hair loss. And in one week the hair loss reduced to less than a 10th of what she was losing, less than a 10th. But she had to go through the runaround ever so slightly, just like most of us to land here at

the Hair N’ Heal program. And once she did the program, that was it, that’s what she needed. In one week, the hair loss reduced, and in 4 weeks it already started growing.

So that’s sometimes what happens is that even in dating I can say this also, from so many testimonials, from friends, from family members, but even in my own case, it’s like you date a bunch of frogs until you get to your Prince Charming, right? But it all led you to the Prince Charming, and in many cases we have to have these experiences in order to know and to get to where we need to get to. And so for any of you thinking that success is linear and it’s just all about taking the escalators up or the elevator up, you have another thing coming. There are gonna be some setbacks, there are gonna be some things that you know, are not so nice. Trying the shampoo that was so expensive, trying the minoxidil that created more hair loss or trying this or trying that, or the Nutrafol or the Viviscal or the this or the that, and no results. But it’s all leading you to where you need to be, which is here. So the belief needs to be there, and the desire needs to be there.

So number #3 needs to have the attention. Where is your attention? Where your energy goes is where energy flows. And so where is your attention when it comes to this? Is the attention for you for making yourself a priority? On the back burner, or is the attention on all these other things that don’t matter. All these other things. Maybe it’s social media, maybe it’s procrastinating, maybe it’s, trying to find the right time. Maybe it’s trying to, wait for X, Y, Z. Or maybe it’s: Oh, let’s do this another day, another month, another year, when things are better. It’s quite impressive though. I find people who have followed me for ages years over 7 years. One gal just recently signed up and she’s been following me for 7 years, and she just now joined the program and she wanted to join the program now because she felt she was ready.

She already got results in just a couple weeks, and what makes somebody ready or not From 7 years ago till now? I don’t know. I couldn’t tell you. But at the same time, now is the time. And I would say for those of you who tend to procrastinate, don’t procrastinate because hair loss is usually a sign of more health issues if you don’t do something about it now and. On the flip side, I’ve had many people come to me wanting to get pregnant, wanting to have other health goals, wanting to do many things, right? It’s not just getting their hair growth back, but it’s also potentially putting into remission a second or a third autoimmune disease. Maybe it’s also, getting pregnant. Maybe it’s also, doing X, Y, Z. And yet all these things can happen and tend to happen once they get started.

So really where is the attention? Where is that you want it because sometimes you know that timeline is finite and sometimes the pain is so bad where you just want to heal right away. But it takes the attention first. Our attention needs to be there and we need to be all in. You can’t do things halfway. And even if you do them halfway, I still say you will get results. Even if you do things in baby steps, you will see results. Now, is it ideal? No, it’s not ideal. It’s like going to school and only getting C’s. It’s not ideal, but okay, you passed. But at the same time, do you have to be a straight A student? No, but do as much as you can and you will see results. I guarantee that.

Next ingredient is your commitment. Alopecia for me and probably for my other clients as well. It’s a lifelong commitment, but it’s a beautiful commitment. It’s a commitment to you, it’s a commitment to your health, it’s a commitment to yourself, it’s a commitment to what you want in life. And if you’re not committed, fully committed, where does that go? It’s just like anything. Are you fully committed to your work, to your marriage, to your relationships, to your endeavors, to your goals? We have to be committed in order to see this come to pass because no one else is going to give us that golden ticket. We need to be committed for it.

People don’t get promoted out of nothing, people don’t graduate out of nothing. There’s work behind the promotion, there’s work behind the graduation, there’s work behind getting things fixed, whether that’s a leak at the roof, or plumbing issues or anything else. There’s work behind it. It just doesn’t come out of nowhere. And just when it comes to about your hair and health, it’s the same thing. You need to have a commitment aspect to it because you are committed. Just if you were pregnant, you would be taking your prenatals, you would be doing all the things that you need to be doing in order to have a healthy pregnancy. And sure, doing all the things looks a little different for each person, depending on their health, how they started with their pregnancy and so on and so forth. But at the same time, there’s a commitment factor, right? We don’t drink alcohol, we don’t drink or smoke while we’re pregnant, right? Because we are committed to a healthy baby. It’s the same thing here. You want to commit to yourself, you wanna commit to your future self, especially, and you get to reap the rewards.

I wouldn’t be here growing an inch of hair. Showing you on social media every month how my grades are coming in at rapid rates, if it wasn’t because I was committed and I live and breathe my program, I do. And it’s gotten me to where I am, alopecia free for over 9 years, growing lots of hair and feeling and looking amazing, even in my mid 40s. So it’s up to us to understand what that commitment looks like and taking that time to do even if it is, like my workouts at 4 in the morning or 4:30 waking up postpartum, just 3 months committed to my weight loss, committed to my health, right? Because the weight loss was part of my health.

So lastly, it’s action. Without action we’re not getting anywhere. And a lot of times. You can get further just by taking action, but it needs to be the right action. This is where, for example, I made lots of mistakes. I’m the first to admit it. I made tons of mistakes, probably just like you, maybe even worse. I spent 4 years making tons of mistakes, spending money where I didn’t need to spend spending time where I didn’t need to spend time. Not understanding everything until now, and taking action allowed for more clarity. Taking action allowed for more, streamlined approach for a better strategy. And for me, understanding and reading between the lines when people didn’t know what they were talking about and also if they could help me or not.

Overcoming alopecia was probably, the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through. I would say probably labor was easier for sure. Getting pregnant was easier. Having a beautiful, healthy pregnancy was easy. But going through alopecia was the hardest

thing I had to go through. But at the same time, it showed me so much. And with consistency, with action, with the desire, with the belief and the faith, with the attention and the commitment, it all came together.

And those are the key ingredients to have success in life, in hair, in health, and any area of life that you want. The desire, the belief, the attention, the commitment, and the action. If action’s not there, then we’re missing everything. You have to implement, you have to take consistent action, and this is key, right? Sometimes it’s like getting on a bicycle. You can get back on even if it’s been years that you haven’t ridden a bike, you can get back on and get back on track real quick, and it’s really easy to do this. It’s really easy to live the life you want pain-free, emotionally and you know mentally well. Without depression, without anxiety, without obsessive thoughts, without the worry or the fear or the unknown, without thinking that this is a lifelong destiny or destination without worrying that another autoimmune disease is gonna happen, or with feeling that things are getting worse, when in reality we can turn the tide and make things better.

So I hope this helps you gain clarity on what’s needed to have full success in hair loss, but also in life. Because you can do this, anyone can, and it does take the desire, the belief, the commitment, the attention, and the action. Make yourself a priority. You are worth it. You are worth every minute you spend on your health and on your hair on. Getting back to better than when you were before hair loss even happened. You are so worth it. And I will say that I can’t even begin to explain what a big transformation, what a better person I am because of going through alopecia and because of healing myself. Like I never thought that this was the true idea of health, the true feeling of health. I thought I already had attained that in my 30s when I had bikini body ready in my thirties. I was wrong. This is where it is. This is where it is. It truly is.

There’s just so much inner peace. There’s so much mental balance, emotional balance. Everything is in harmony, it’s incredible. And of course, the hair. I get the stares, I get the compliments, and I know everything’s on the uptick. When I get the hair compliments and the stares at the supermarket or at the drugstore or anywhere else, you can do that too. You can have it too. Hair is within your reach.
