Today's topic are three things that you can be doing now to jump start and get ahead on your alopecia healing journey and what I would say the number one tip right now granted I have three but the number one tip is to get really focused and the thing is that the more time that subsides the more time that goes along without progress without healing without you focused on it this is where we start to see either more issues more hair loss more uncertainty more sadness more grief
more of all these emotions more of all these situations of turmoil that we can really be turning around and putting the kabash on and so this is really necessary for you to focus on I'll tell you out of my own experience when I was going through hair loss when I was going through alopecia areata moving into totalis it was my one and only priority not to say that I didn't celebrate holidays not to say that I didn't see family because I did but I will say that I made this my job I only focused on this and it still took me four years.
It was 16 18h hour days only focused on this I know the majority of you do not have 16 18 hour days to focus on this to make it your sole responsibility to make it your only focus but what I can say is that this is actually why I created the hair and heel program so that busy people can do this in less time because I know that my circumstance is not going to be your circumstance I had the circumstance of not having a job not having kids not even having a husband at the time and
being single living off of my saving I was able to only focus on this and make it my job to heal make it my job because no one else was taking responsibility for my hair loss no one else was helping me no one else was guiding me no one else was giving me tips and tricks no one else was saying here's the way no one was saying that to me as someone who takes responsibility as someone who advocates for themselves I said look forget the doctors forget all these other people who just want to throw me down the rabbit hole of medications.
I'm done with that let's figure this out on your own and I did so I would say focus on this and granted you may have kids you may have a job you may have so much going on in your life but I will say if you focus on this even if it's just 30 minutes a day even if it's just a couple hours a week you are still making more progress than not making this a priority not making this a focus and I'm going to revert back to athletes I'm going to revert I married one right I Married an Athlete.
So I see how he functions how he manoeuvres in his life in his time management skills and when you're an athlete when you're an Olympian when you are focused extremely focused whether it's in your career whether it's in your master's program whether it's in getting that next degree whatever it is that you're focused on even if it is fertility or hair loss or any medical situation you make it your number one priority and if you don't you should be.
I made healing myself the number one priority to me and again yes I made time for friends here and there yes I made time for family here and there but it wasn't my priority my priority was me and again I focused on me and I focused on this and that led to results that led to me really understanding okay I'm not going to go out tonight because I'm focused on this where else am I going to get the 16 18 hour work days working on healing myself had I not said no to all the distractions which leads me into my number two so number one is to focus.
Focus as much as you can and granted when you have something so easy as the hair and heel program to guide you along step by step you don't have to spend 16 18 hour days on this this is 30 minutes a day an hour a day max 30 minutes a day and maybe even per week for some of you who are really go-getters and you just Implement quite simple quite easy but you need a focus and if this is important to you you will focus on it because I know as a mom when something's wrong with Junior I focus on Junior and everything stops whether he needs a doctor's appointment whether he needs for me to talk to the school teacher or whoever it is or whatever the situation is I focus and I zoom in on it so let's zoom in on your hair loss let's zoom in on your hair growth because only zooming in only focusing on it is going to lead you to more results to making yourself a priority that's part of the problem ladies a bunch of you have made yourself and put yourself on the back burner everyone else in your family comes first before you.
Until of course the hair loss is just so detrimental where you're like okay now I got to do something for me I understand that now as a mom and I'm so happy I healed before becoming a mom but at the same time you can still heal but we got to shift and we got to ask for more help if you need more help ask for it but focus on you just a little bit more because that's part of this you need to jump start your hair growth with focusing on you you need to be a priority as well your health is a priority and for those of you parents who feel guilty about putting yourself as a priority you shouldn't because your health and being trickles down and translates into the health and well-being of your children it really does and you know it this is why on the airplane they say put your mask on before you put the mask on to other loved ones because without you living and breathing is going to be a lot harder and so I'm putting this into perspective for you make yourself a priority and focus on your situation focus on this because it can only get worse and normally it does the other thing.
I would say is limit the distractions that was key for me I wasn't watching Netflix I wasn't watching TV I wasn't hanging out as much with my friends I wasn't going to bars doing happy hour drinking I wasn't doing any of this I was focused on my hair growth I was doing the trial and errors I was putting this all together why because it was my sanity because if I didn't heal and went bald I don't know what would have happened it wouldn't have been me I wouldn't have been able
to live or be happy or be my best self or be my true person and that's actually the next thing is your why why do you want to heal why is this so important to you now I know the answers for me and I can probably guess what the answers are for you but that's the third thing and when you start focusing on yourself making yourself a priority so focusing on you on your situation number two limiting the distractions and taking action so when you limit the distractions and you say no to all the ancillary sorry I'm busy sorry I can't sorry
I can't sorry I'm busy then you say yes to you you say yes to the priorities you say yes to what's important you know what I mean when anyone gets a diagnosis their life stands still I actually just found out the other day that a person who I know not personally but through another friend was diagnosed with cancer and this person is 25 years old and it startled me and he's documenting it he's on Instagram he's wants to beat cancer and is rallying other people and started a charity and he's doing all these great things
but when you have a diagnosis of any sort including alopecia including hair loss including anything else big or small everything shifts or at least it should right everything shifts and your focus is on that so if your focus is on that you're already at number one number two limit the distractions say no to the Netflix say no to the happy hours say no to the office parties say no to all these extra things that are taking you away from focusing on you prioritizing you your health and your hair.
I know that's hard especially going into holiday days but that doesn't mean you can't have Christmas that doesn't mean you can't have Thanksgiving that doesn't mean you can't have K Kwanzaa that doesn't mean you can't have Hanukkah that doesn't mean you can't have some of these holidays of course you can but okay Kwanzaa is one day Christmas is one day thanksgiving's one day what about the days before and after focus on you.
If someone's trying to say hey Johanna how about you host Thanksgiving this year how about you host Christmas is here sorry can't do it no thanks how about you do it you know what I mean simplify if you need a simplify it doesn't need to be this big orchestrated event it could be just a simple lovely dinner with you and your immediate family and that's it simplify simplify focus on you get back to study get back to focusing on you get back to making yourself a priority that's huge really huge the next step is to consider your why write it down somewhere put it on a wall on your mirror with a Post-It note and that why is that burn desire of why you're doing this why you're saying no to the maybe the birthday parties or to the happy hours or to the book club or to anything else that you do on a regular basis or maybe just on a seasonal basis and say hey no I I need to focus on me and that's okay and remember your why remember your why because when you do then there's no guilt when you do then you know it's for the best I will say during my he in Journey I was removed naturally from friends and family I was removed because I was moving from one place to the other.
So I didn't have immediate family and friends which I will say made it easier because again those distractions were limited if Grandma needed help going to the grocery store I wasn't there I was more than 3,000 miles away if my mom needed help with something or if my sister needed me for something I wasn't there I was over 10 time zones different and away from them so that actually helped me in my healing Journey naturally eliminating the distractions because I had moved and I was on my own and so that helped me but
and I know it's tough if you have in a five mile radius your whole family but it's still doable and I will say that their form of support and love would be to respect that and you need to really prioritize you focus on you take action and continue understanding your why your why is going to be so important and so this is the same thing if let's say you want to heal from cancer right or if you want to get pregnant and you're focusing on your fertility or if you want to lose weight you need to focus on your why and
I would say too go with the pro I mentioned this a couple times here and there but I'll mention it again so when I gained 50 pounds during my pregnancy so it took me nine months to gain 50 pounds granted I had a 9 pound 7 ounce baby which in kilos that's 4 kilos 400 gram for those of you internationally so that's a big baby I gained the 50 lbs happy to do it because I had a beautiful healthy baby but like 3 months in 3 months in postpartum I was like okay I need to start getting back to the gym I need to start losing weight and getting back to my normal self and I hired a personal trainer immediately the personal trainer I told them look I just had I just delivered a baby I'm not as strong as I used to be especially in my core I'm weak I had lost a lot of blood so all these things I told him and so he tailored and customized the strength training the workouts the everything for me for my situation because I'm not at the time I wasn't 25 years old and just like ready to go Zippy zip and super strong no I was 40 postpartum and super weak and so granted just like a personal trainer I needed that personalization and accountability and it was awesome because I saw him multiple times a week and in six months I lost 50 pounds naturally in a healthy way not through a zenic not through some pill naturally and it's stayed off and it's maintained to be off and so this is what I'm I'm telling you sometimes you need that Pro to go with and have accountability to have responsibility and to say
hey watch me spot me am I doing the exercise correctly I don't want to injure myself I don't want any setbacks I don't want any obstacles so I think the last tip I've given you many in this podcast which I love doing but I would say focus on you prioritize take away the distractions take action keep in mind your why keep in mind your why remember if you have an autoimmune disease whether it's alopecia Arata totalis universalis or other you're more inclined to have a second or a third autoimmune disease so that was a big why for me my fertility was a big why my hair itself was the biggest why but naturally it had to be cause. I knew the medications weren't going to take me there. I knew the minoxidils, the rogans, the prps the laser caps the acupuncture like you name it none of that was going to take me there or to the finish line so remember your why focusing on you taking action focusing on you remembering your why and then of course doing your best and not feeling guilty about focusing on you prioritizing your health your well-being your mental health your emotional health.
Clearly if you have hair loss this has been on the back burner you've put yourself on the back burner for a while now and it's time for you to put yourself as a priority when we're going through school I have lots of college students who do my program when we're going through school the straight A the extra credit the study abroad trips the internships all these things are a priority but then where is us where is us and our well-being where is us in our mental health where is us in our emotional health where is us in our physical health and so these are just some things that if we continue to be on this hamster wheel we will continue to burn out on various levels and so we got to teach our youth our children but ourselves as well that making yourself a priority is not a bad thing it's not and there's a nice way to go about it but at the same time it's necessary in order for you to be your best in order for you to bring your gifts to the world in order for you to live and be and Thrive and be fruitful I will say post alopecia.
I'm such a different person such a different person what than who I was and what I was before in many ways in many ways Mind Body Spirit. I'm a different person but at the same time that core Johanna that core person is still there that takes initiative takes action that wants results that will do anything for it because I know I'm worth it and I know you're worth it as well and just understand that once you are on the healing process you can be on cruise control you can be living your best life without the fear of this coming back without the uncertainty without the Vicious Cycles.
So once again just to recap we mentioned that the three tips Plus Plus for the day on how to jump start your alopecia journey in hair growth is to a focus on you B eliminate distractions as much as possible if you're spending too much time watching TV that's probably not where your best effort is going to be coming from I would say understand your why and make it known and put it on Post-it notes in your wall on your laptop on your phone take a picture of it.
Keep it ahead keep it at eyesight so that you are remembered constantly why you're doing this why you want to heal what this why is this Burning Desire because that will get you back on track every time you deviate from the focus every time you deviate from prioritizing yourself every time you know give in to a distraction this will bring you back I would say take action without action nothing happens you have to have action had I not had my personal trainer I wouldn't have lost my 50 pounds in six months you know there's people who gain weight and who just keep the weight on and they're like oh I'll get a membership I'll get a gym membership and I'll do it myself two years have passed and these same people who I know personally are still 50 75 100 pounds overweight you could either go slow and try to do it yourself or go fast and go with a pro I'll leave you with that thought again the hair and heel program is open for a few more days so if you have any questions let me know and I look forward to seeing you next time.
