Why You Need a Health & Hair Coach for Your Alopecia

Feb 28, 2019
Autoimmune disease and Alopecia are no joke. It can be scary, frightening and it can rattle you and effect you in all areas of life. Much like depending on a wiser, sibling, friend, or mentor, a health coach is there for you, with first hand experience, with tools, great ideas, work arounds, problem solving and giving you ways to help you more, get the most out of the experience and wisdom that they offer, including results for health- and in my case: hair!
TIP: Your health coach should not only have the experience but also the results you are looking for. They should walk the walk, and talk the talk.
I know from personal experience, that trying to lose weight, obtain a goal, and grow my hair back from alopecia by myself, takes a lot longer than taking advantage of a professional that has "been there and done that” and has tips, tools and learnings to help you avoid stagnating and to propel you further and faster!
A health coach can provide many layers of support that will ensure you are able to eliminate the confusion of where to begin, how to start and what to do in order to get on the path to healing your alopecia. A health coach can also sort and make sense of things you read or heard of, conflicting information and tailor the correct information and protocol to your direct lifestyle, to assist you in creating long-term sustainable change while keeping you on track if (or when) you lose hope, momentum, or focus.
Here are five reasons why you need a Health & Hair Coach for your Alopecia:
 1. Relief + Guidance
If you have tried to make a change in your health in the past, you might be able to relate to feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or confused or so down on yourself that you cant seem to smile or think there’s a possibility of hope. Around 80% just give up less than half way through programs - think New Years Resolutions!
Relief comes when you can count on your health coach for clarity amid all the info online and in journals and in new research. More importantly they can tailor a plan to you and your lifestyle, give you concrete ways to tackle work arounds, problem solve hurdles and concerns. More importantly, they will guide you in the right direction but also give you a starting place and cheer you on along the way, step by step!
2. Expertise + Experience
Holistic health is a combination of biochemical interactions, mind-body connection, lifestyle choices, eating habits, automatic behaviors, emotional needs, stress management, and personal fulfillment. Your health coach can help you implement, and help you modify new changes, where needed to create success. You might be out of balance and your health coach can shine a light on your blind spots and areas for improvement. Health and wellness coaches are trained to look deeper into your health, a detective when looking into your behaviors, chemistry, and lifestyle. As a health coach myself, I can help you with my experience of going through alopecia and helping countless people with their own alopecia struggles. Using my years of trial and error to your benefit by getting you results and on the path to better health faster and more efficiently. Having gone through alopecia, I know exactly what you are going through, how you are feeling and exactly how to help!
3. Mirror Reflection
A lot of times it’s takes an unbiased approach to gently and carefully assist in creating more awareness and mindfulness. Many times hearing things from a third party allows for more consideration versus from family or friends. As you move towards new health practices you may experience some resistance, fear, push-back, and even inner rebellion in making your new health changes. This may be different from the rest of your household or even group of friends. Giving up comfort, giving up old habits is always hard, however the results are amazing if you are disciplined enough to forge through and create healthy changes for a healthier version of yourself. A health coach can help you in areas that are difficult and can lend solutions to make things easier for you. You are never alone with a health coach, they are guiding you and supporting you, every step of the way.
4. Accountability
Being accountable is setting a timeline, a due date and following through. Much like projects at work or school, being accountable is necessary for success. A health coach helps you be accountable by having weekly check in’s and conversations. Being able to bounce off ideas, or reach out to someone when you are feeling vulnerable encourages you to gain refreshed insight and feel empowered to move forward. Studies show that success in achieving goals comes from being accountable. When you share your goal, and are held accountable, success rates soar to 70%, however if you keep the goal to yourself the rate of success is lowered to only 35%.
The exciting part is that as you become closer to your goals you see and feel results. Alopecia was more than just hair for me. I wanted to feel like myself again. I was in a fog of fear and focusing was difficult. A bit depressed perhaps as well I am sure, as I felt isolated with alopecia. A health coach can provide consistent accountability, keep you on pace, and celebrating your small and big wins. You are never alone and have all the support needed for that extra push.
5. Support + Encouragement
Enlisting support for yourself gives you a sense of confidence and security. Knowing that your health coach has been in your shoes, overcame it and is now dedicating themselves to the cause which concerns you the most! Knowing that your health coach knows how to give you strategies and approaches to tackling the hardest problems or scenarios in creating the results you are looking for, can be reassuring during a disturbing time of hairloss and health problems. Addressing the key factors that are holding you back, and supporting you with resources and tools will only help you attain and achieve your goals in health and hair, more quickly. Personally, I wish I had had a mentor or someone to guide me through my journey with alopecia. It's traumatic and in many ways makes you feel hopeless and helpless. In addressing my alopecia, I was determined to achieve normality, to achieve my health as before, to achieve my amazing hair once again.
